Good news - you can get up to 75% off your home charging station!

If you’re a UK resident looking to get a charging station for your electric car at home, you could be eligible for a big discount!

How does it work?

Yep, that’s right. It’s a government grant that allows you to purchase a charging point for a considerably lower price. Here’s how it works and how to apply.

First things first. The government grant originates from an OLEV policy. OLEV stands for Office for Low Emission Vehicles. OLEV’s core purpose is to support the early market for ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs). “We are absolutely determined to reduce carbon emissions from transport as part of our ongoing commitment to tackle climate change,” says Transport Secretary Chris Grayling.

The UK is committed to improving air quality and reducing pollution in towns and cities. That’s why the government pledged a £290m sum to boost the industry of low emission vehicles. £80m of this amount is claimed for improving charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. To get more and more people behind the electric wheel, a good network of reliable charging points is key.

That’s why the UK government will now make a 75% contribution to every purchase, which could equate up to 500 pounds (incl. VAT) per household/eligible vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Who can apply?

The grant is for all customers residing in the UK, holding evidence of ownership, lease, or those who are the primary user of an eligible EV. Make sure to check if your car makes the cut as this will depend on cost and emission levels. You will also be required to confirm you have off-street parking facilities suitable for charging station installation.

How do I claim the home charging grant (OLEV)?

The best way is to contact your installer, which can apply for the funding on your behalf. However, the installer must first be approved by the charging station manufacturer and accredited by OLEV to install that specific charging station.

EVBox UK is an approved manufacturer of OLEV EVHS charge points and works with a series of trained and approved installers who will be able to assist and guide you through this process. OLEV also released a full list of OLEV approved installers.

Can I claim OLEV if I purchase a second-hand electric car or use a company car?

You can apply for the grant if you have bought a new or second-hand EV and within four months prior to, or after taking possession of the vehicle. In addition, you’re only eligible if you haven’t claimed against any previous domestic charging point schemes unless you are able to evidence keepership of more than one eligible EV. If you’re leasing or driving a company assigned car, you must be doing so as the primary user for at least six months.

How do I know if my installation is standard or non-standard?

To get started, EVBox provides a recommendation via one of our experts prior to your installation. Then, our EVBox installation partner will conduct a site survey when they arrive on the day of your installation.

If your installation is non-standard installations you may incur an additional cost. Once your order is placed, we'll be in touch to better understand your requirements and produce a no-obligation quote for the additional works.

Is there a limit on the number of charging points I can buy?

Yes, there is. You can only apply for one charging point per car, with a maximum of two charging points per household.
